Brain Surgery
Brain surgery is done to treat problems like brain tumors, blood clots, aneurysms, epilepsy, severe head injuries, and some movement disorders when medicines are not enough. The goal is to remove or repair the abnormal area while protecting healthy brain tissue as much as possible.
What happens in treatment
Detailed MRI/CT scans, blood tests, and anesthesia assessment are done before surgery.
The neurosurgeon opens a small part of the skull (craniotomy) or uses an endoscope through a tiny opening to reach the problem area and perform the planned procedure, such as removing a tumor or clipping an aneurysm.
After surgery, the bone flap or small opening is closed, and the patient is shifted to the ICU for close monitoring of brain function, vitals, and pain control.
What to expect after surgery
Common, usually temporary effects include headache, fatigue, mild nausea, sleepiness, and short‑term memory or mood changes.
Hospital stay is typically a few days, followed by rest at home and, when needed, physiotherapy or speech therapy to help recovery.
